Dances: Quickstep
Part: Lead
Workout: Chest and shoulders at the gym.
Meetings Attended Today: 2
Happy Hour: McCormick and Schmick's - Cheeseburger.
Today's practice and workout was cut really short day due to a last minute meeting I had to attend. I didn't make it to the gym until 7:45 so I arrived I did a really quick workout and headed in to practice.
Surprisingly, Sarah and I picked Quickstep to work on today. I told her we really need to just force ourselves to practice it. Normally we find an excuse not to and as a result it has become our least favorite dance as well as our least proficient. It's funny to think that I used to really like Quickstep. That was before the Tipsies and Rumba Crosses. Time to change that. We put Rumba Crosses into our cross hairs today and boy were they shaky the first few times around. So we slowed things down with the trusty metronome all the while also making a conscious effort of keep our connection to each other alive throughout the figure. It's tough. All that rotating and shaping, not to mention screwed up footwork (in the sense that the correct footwork is just goofy) make Rumba Crosses a very difficult figure. To top it off we come out of them with the bottom half of a Running Right Turn. That means I need to level off quickly and make sure to lead Sarah into a Heel Turn. *sigh*
We plan to keep working on Quickstep this week and get it caught up to the rest of our dances. We also worked a little on our Waltz tonight, but nothing much to mention there.
Tonight were were joined by our Latin dancing friends. It was interesting to see them "discover" the virtues of metronomic practice. While we were clicking away at the Quickstep, they had naturally just started dancing in time to the same beat and realized how helpful the slow practice was. I'm glad it's catching on. Time for some rest and more Quickstep tomorrow!
